Walk to Relieve Your Fibromyalgia Pain

By Dr. Steven Yen

Walking is a GREAT reduced impact kind of exercising! Better yet , it's safe AND does not need plenty of practice. I actually encourage you to start walking a couple of times a week if you can. It doesn't have to be a far walk and it does not have to be for a considerable time You need to walk.

The Mayo Clinic revealed a story a short while back about the link between obesity and fibromyalgia. "We see an association between body mass index with symptom severity and standard of life in patients with fibromyalgia," says study author Terry Oh, M.D, of Mayo Clinic's Dep. of Physical Medicine & Rehab. "This was the 1st study to look at distinct groups of obese patients and determine how weight relates to levels of symptoms and quality of life."

Check it out:

The study considered body mass index (BMI) in 888 fibromyalgia patients seen at the Mayo Hospital Fibromyalgia Treatment Programme in Rochester. Obesity (BMI bigger than 29) was common in about half of the patients, and one-fourth were severely overweight (BMI bigger than 35). All patients studied completed questionnaires describing their symptoms and ability to function correctly. Symptom acuteness was more exaggerated as obesity increased. Overall, groups of patients with bigger BMI reported more terrible fibromyalgia-related symptoms and lower standard of life. Severely obese patients reported noticeably higher discomfort scores than non-obese and chubby patients.

As the study has suggested, not merely will frequent exercise will help prevent obesity nevertheless it will also relieve some of your pain and help you live a happier life! Because walking provides a mess of benefits and because it is way easier on your joints than running or jogging is, it is one of the simpler exercises to begin.

Now that you've decided to begin moving and walking everyday let's talk about the important stuff.

Correct shoes "Wearing the right footwear is KEY! Head to your local shoes store and speak to the sales associate. Tell them that you'd like great shoes for walking and they'll help you to find shoes with the right arch support and cushion. Make certain to walk around for a little while (if you are able to) in the store so that you know they will be comfy later.

Correct clothing "Wearing loose clothing is best here. Even though you're not running a marathon or necessarily walking a long distance, that is O.K. You can still need clothing that will not stick to your body if you sweat a bit. It's all about making this walk as cosy as practical! :)

Take it at A Sensible Speed "Please, don't think you have to get up tomorrow morning and run a marathon because like we talked about before, you Just need to work up a sweat. Start out slow and just walk around your house. You do not have to go far and you don't have to walk for long. Do what's best for YOU and if you aren't able to do as much as you thought, that's okay! You will get there! :)

Walking is an Glorious way to get moving if you have fibromyalgia. Fibro is Hard to live with (trust me I know that just from working with my patients) but you can relieve some of your pain.

Here is one thing I'll nearly assure you 100% "

If you don't do ANYTHING then you're not going to have ANY prospect of feeling ANY improvement! Even if you don't believe moving and stretching can/should/will help relieve any of your discomfort If you do not try it (Truly try it give it a fair shot) then you'll never know. It's as simple as that.
